October 6 BOC Meeting Highlights

The Oconee County Board of Commissioners held its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. The following actions were taken at the meeting:

  • Announcements
    • Oconee County Parks & Recreation Department named GRPA District 7 2020 Agency of the Year
    • Advance voting will take place October 12 through October 30
  • Presentation of proclamation recognizing National 4­-H Week and State 4­-H Award Winners ­
  • Approved Hotel/Motel Tax Ordinance 
  • Approved with conditions Rezone No. P20­0143 for ±5.00 acres located at the intersection of Georgia Highway 53 and Garrett Road from AG (Agricultural District) to AR (Agricultural Residential District) to allow two 2.5­ acre lots
  • Approved with conditions Rezone No. P20­0148 for ±3.51 acres located at the intersection of Macon Highway/Summit Grove Drive from AR (Agricultural Residential District) to OIP (Office Institutional Professional District) to allow for the development of an office park
  • Approved with condition Special Exception Variance No. 20­0176 for 3.51 acres located at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Summit Grove Drive to waive the requirement for incompatible use buffer
  • Approved with condition Rezone No. P20­0154 for ±8.18 acres located at 8780 Macon Highway from OIP (Office Professional Institutional District) to OIP with modifications to rezone no. 4523 to allow for a daycare facility
  • Approved with condition Special Use No. P20­0155 for ±8.18 acres located at 8780 Macon Highway to modify Conditional Use Permit No. 4524 to allow for a daycare facility
  • Approved with condition Special Exception Variance No. 20­0171 for 3.02 acres located at 1607 Lea Haven Way to reduce the rear setback for an accessory building
  • Approved Street Light Tax District for Autumn Glen Subdivision, Phase 2
  • Approved Street Light Tax District for Stonewood Subdivision, Phase 1
  • Appointed Rachel Swartz to the Oconee County Board of Health for a term to begin January 1, 2021, and expire December 31, 2025
  • Appointed Adam Hammond to the Farmland Preservation Committee for a term to begin January 1, 2021, and expire December 31, 2023
  • Appointed Amanda Marable and Rubilien Norris to the Oconee County Library Board for terms to begin January 1, 2021, and expire December 31, 2025
  • Approved contract for upgrades to E­911 at a cost of $222,114
  • Awarded design services contract for the State Route 53 Roundabouts Project for two roundabouts located on State Route 53 at the intersections of Snows Mill Road and Ray’s Church Road to Thomas & Hutton for a price not to exceed $878,100; this project will be completed in partnership with the Georgia DOT; GDOT will cover 100% of construction and utilities costs, which are estimated at $4.4 million for construction and $500,000 for utilities
  • Approved Smart City Capital Broadband Contract to bring broadband coverage to Oconee County with an estimated timeline of 2.5 years at a cost of $4.5 million
  • Approved the Resolution for the Issuance of Citations 
  • Approved the "Governmental Encroachment Agreement for Easement" with Georgia Transmission Corporation regarding the Barber Creek Sewer Extension
  • Approved Northeast Georgia Regional Commission FY2021 Aging Services Contract 
  • Approve Contract for Northeast Georgia Regional Commission CARES Act for Nutrition Services
