Oconee Fire Rescue Receives Employee Safety Grant

Firefighter Turnout Gear Hanging Up Ready for Use

$5,000 grant to fund turnout gear

Oconee County Fire Rescue recently received a grant from the Association County Commissioners of Georgia Group Self-Insurance Workers’ Compensation Fund (ACCG-GSIWCF). The $5,000 Employee Safety Grant, which is awarded to ACCG-GSIWCF members who foster a culture of workplace safety through  training, equipment, or services, will be used to purchase turnout gear for the department’s volunteer firefighters.

“We are very grateful to receive the ACCG grant for turnout gear,” said Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton. “The new turnout gear will replace older non-compliant gear, providing our members with the most up-to-date gear to safely extinguish fires.”

Oconee County Fire Rescue includes seven fire stations, staffed with 188 volunteer firefighters and medical responders.  For more information about Oconee County Fire Rescue, visit
