EPD Lifts Level 1 Drought Response for Oconee County

Water Stewardship Act schedule for outdoor watering remains in effect

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has lifted the Level 1 Drought Response for Oconee County as a result of recent rainfall and improving conditions. The Level 1 Drought Response, which had been in effect since October, required public water utilities to provide information to help water customers understand drought, its impact on water supplies, and the need for conservation.

“Though Oconee County is no longer under a Level 1 Drought Response, it is always important to be mindful of water conservation,” said Water Resources Director Tim Durham. “Oconee County Water Resources is committed to being a good steward of this precious resource.”

As a reminder, the outdoor water use schedule outlined in the Water Stewardship Act of 2010, which limits most outdoor water use to the hours between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m., remains in effect. Exceptions to this schedule can be found on the EPD website at https://epd.georgia.gov/watershed-protection-branch/water-conservation.
