Grant encourages basketball participation for all in local communities
The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association, in partnership with the Atlanta Hawks and the Hawks Foundation, recently awarded the Oconee County Parks & Recreation Department (OCPRD) a grant to cover all scholarships for its youth basketball program. OCPRD was one of 36 agencies across the state of Georgia to receive this grant for scholarships.
OCPRD received a total of $950 to provide need-based scholarships to families registering children for youth basketball. The department also received a $1,200 award to assist in promoting basketball in Oconee County.
“We were excited to be able to approve all basketball scholarship applications submitted this season, due to the funding received from the Atlanta Hawks and the Hawks Foundation,” said OCPRD Director Lisa Davol. “Youth basketball is a prominent program in Oconee County, and we have more than 700 youth participating in recreational basketball.”
The Oconee County Parks & Recreation Department works to provide safe and accessible recreational facilities and a diversified program of recreational activities for all residents. For more information, visit www.oconeecounty.com/ocprd.
