Local Boards & Committees

Please view the Oconee County website’s “Agenda Center” for agendas, minutes and updates regarding the following committees.

Animal Services Advisory Board: Members advise, assist, and provide general policy oversight to the Animal Services Department. Meetings are held in January, April , July, and October at a time, date, and place established by the Advisory Board.

Board of Elections & Registration: Members assist in the operations of Election Days, training of poll workers and election process. Meetings held monthly, typically, on the first Monday at 5:30 pm at the Board of Elections Office, 10 Court Street, Watkinsville.

Board of Health: Members aid the Board of Health in recognizing and making citizens aware of ways to prevent and suppress disease and harmful health conditions. Meetings held quarterly on the second Wednesday at 3:30 pm at the Oconee County Health Department, 1060 Experiment Station Road, Watkinsville.

Board of Tax Assessors: Members address the complex issues of tax appraising and valuation. Qualified applicants having prior appraisal-related experience are preferred and must be willing to attend training. Meetings held monthly on the second Tuesday at 9:00 am at the Oconee County Courthouse, 23 North Main Street, Watkinsville.

Family and Children Services Board: Members advise and assist the Division of Family and Children Services and act as liaison to the general public. Meetings held bi-monthly on the third Thursday at 3:30 pm (January, March, May, July, September and November) at the Oconee County DFACS Office, 1400 Greensboro Highway, Watkinsville.

Farmland Preservation Committee: Committee is responsible for ranking Oconee County farms submitted for potential farmland preservation funds. Qualified applicants may have experience in the area of farming, agriculture and farmland preservation. Meetings are held on an as-needed basis, generally concentrated in the months of July thru December.

Industrial Development Authority: Members encourage and promote the expansion and development of industrial and commercial facilities in the county. Meetings are held monthly on the second Monday of each month at 4:00 pm at the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce in Watkinsville.

Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission: Keep America Beautiful Affiliate dedicated to increasing environmental stewardship among Oconee citizens. Meetings held bi-monthly on the second Monday at 6:30 pm at the Oconee Government Annex, 1291 Greensboro Highway, Watkinsville.

Library Advisory Board: Members review and approve budgets, establish policies governing library programs, and present financial and progress reports. Meetings held quarterly on the second Monday at 4:30 pm. Location varies between Oconee Library, 1080 Experiment Station Road, Watkinsville and Bogart Library, 200 South Burson Avenue, Bogart.

Oconee River Resource, Conservation and Development Council: Members assist in working with local people, agencies and organizations to identify critical problems, developing plans to alleviate the problems, and implementing such plans to help improve the quality of the area. Council Meetings held quarterly on the third Thursday at 10:00 am at the Hardigree Wildlife Sanctuary, 1110 Old Greensboro Highway, Watkinsville.

Planning Commission: Members advise and assist in guiding and accomplishing a coordinated and harmonious development of Oconee County which will best promote public health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity, and the general welfare. Meetings are held monthly on the third Monday at 7:00 pm at the Oconee County Courthouse, 25 North Main Street, Watkinsville.

Recreation Advisory Committee: Members interact with the Board of Commissioners, county staff and the public to review and discuss important issues affecting the county’s parks and recreational facilities and activities to formulate recommendations on significant issues. Meetings are held bi-monthly on the third Tuesday at 5:00 pm at the Oconee Veterans Park Community Center, 3500A Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville, unless otherwise noted on the agenda.

Tourism & Visitors Bureau: The Bureau oversees operations of the Oconee County Tourism Department and Welcome Center. Meetings are held bi-monthly on the third Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Oconee County Welcome Center, 21 North Main Street, Watkinsville.

Transportation Task Force: The Task Force is currently reviewing the Georgia Department of Transportation County-Wide Transportation Plan. Meetings are held bi-monthly on the second Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Oconee Veterans Park in the Conference Room.

Regional Boards

Hard Labor Creek Reservoir Management Board: Qualified applicants may have expertise in any of the following areas: engineering, watershed management, finance, water treatment plant and reservoir operations, or associated environmental areas. Meetings are held on an as-needed basis at the Walton County Courthouse, 303 South Hammond Drive, Monroe, Georgia. Hard Labor Creek Regional Reservoir Website.

Community Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, & Addictive Diseases Community Service Board: This board is the governing body of the Advantage Behavioral Health Systems and is responsible for delivering publicly funded mental health, developmental disability, and addictive diseases services in ten northeast Georgia counties. Meetings are held monthly on the fourth Tuesday at 4:00 pm at the Advantage Behavioral Health Systems Office in Athens, 250 North Avenue. Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities & Addictive Diseases Community Service Board, Region 2 Members are encouraged to be an advocate for those who require mental health, developmental disability, and addictive disease services. Meetings are held via video conference every other month on the third Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Northeast Health District Office, 189 Paradise Boulevard, Athens.
