The Board of Commissioners recognized the following 4-H participants with certificates at the Board Meeting held October 4, 2016: Hayden Guthrie – 1st Place State Congress – Housing, Equipment and Environment Project; Andrew Hunt – 1st Place State Congress -Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors Project; Emily Queen – State Congress Participant – Computer Information Technology Project; Kiana Washington – State Congress Participant in the Performing Arts-Vocal Project and GA Representative at National Conference in Washington, DC; Reed Smith – High Individual in State Wildlife Judging Contest.
The Board also recognized and presented certificates to the 2016 State Champion Dairy Quiz Bowl Team. Joey Bristol, Senior 4-H Program Assistant, announced the team members present at the Board Meeting. The Boa sented certificates of recognition to Lora Nedza and Brantley Saye. Team me G.W. The Oconee County Board of Commissioners has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 2.56 percent for the unincorporated areas and 2.48 percent for the incorporated areas. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held in the Commission Chambers at the Oconee County Courthouse, 23 N. Oconee County 2016 Tax Digest and 5-Year History of Levy
In Compliance with Georgia law, the Oconee County Board of Commissioners hereby announces its intention to adopt a millage rate of 6.686 (unincorporated) and 7.646 (incorporated). Under current Georgia law, these proposed millage rates are considered to result in a tax increase. Accordingly, the Board has scheduled three public hearings for the purpose of soliciting public input on this increase.
The property digest in Oconee County reflects an increase due to increased assessed property values of ,129,102. The resulting tax digest countywide is ,600,445,224. Due to the increase in assessed property values, the proposed county millage rates are considered by state law to be tax increases of approximately 3.45% (unincorporated) and 2.95% (incorporated).
