MissionProvide the highest quality services in a fiscally responsible manner to promote the health, safety and general welfare of all Oconee County citizens. ResponsibilitiesThe Oconee County Board of Commissioners is the county governing authority as provided by state law. The Board is vested with budget and taxing authority, ordinance making authority, and control of county property, roads and facilities. The chairman and commissioners are elected at-large for staggered terms of four years. The Chairman is a full-time elected official and the county's Chief Executive Officer who, in consultation with the Commissioners, appoints officers and staff as needed to administer the responsibilities of the Board. The Board conducts regular monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Commission Meeting Chambers, Room 224 on the second floor of the Oconee County Courthouse. They also conduct their monthly agenda setting meeting on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Commission Chambers. 1) When does the Board of Commissioners meet?
The Regular Meetings of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Oconee County Board of Commissioners Meeting Chambers, Room 224, on the second floor of the Oconee County Courthouse, 23 North Main Street, Watkinsville, Georgia.
An Agenda Setting Meeting is held the Tuesday preceding the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Oconee County Board of Commissioners Meeting Chambers, Room 224, on the second floor of the Oconee County Courthouse, 23 North Main Street, Watkinsville, Georgia. At the Agenda Setting Meeting, the Board of Commissioners reviews those items to be considered at the Regular Meeting.
During December of each year, the Board of Commissioners approves a meeting schedule for the following year, taking into account any scheduling conflicts. The meeting schedule is posted on the County Website and the Courthouse Bulletin Board.

Commissioners are elected at-large to designated posts. They are elected to represent all county
citizens throughout the county.

There is an agenda item on each agenda providing the public an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of the Regular and Agenda Setting Meetings.
