Mission

The mission of the Oconee County Utility Department is to provide potable water in a quality and quantity that meets the needs of our residential and commercial customers and to provide the treatment of wastewater for commercial, institutional and industrial customers.

Responsibilities

Continual monitoring and treatment of water and wastewater by State Certified Operators; Maintenance of all treatment, distribution and collection facilities and equipment; Response to citizen requests and grievances when required; Preparation of department's budget; Preparation and submission of all required reports to Georgia EPD, EPA; Issuance of yearly Consumer Confidence Report; Maintenance of Utility records as required by county, state and federal governments; Performance of all financial duties related to Utility Department Operations; and Analysis of the county's water and wastewater needs and provision of alternatives to meet those needs.

1) How Do I Establish Service with Oconee Utility?

When establishing water and sewer service with Oconee County Utility Department you will need to verify that we service the location you are moving to. A service application will need to be filled out and proper deposits and service charges paid. Our office can verify the total fee that needs to be paid when you call our office to verify the location is serviced by OCUD. We need a copy of the driver's license of the individual that is signing up for service and if this is a rental property we need a copy of the rental and/or lease agreement. All items listed must be submitted to our office before service can be established with OCUD. For commercial service with OCUD we also need a sewer capacity request form filled out to make sure all capacity fees have been paid. Applications for service, as well as sewer capacity request forms can be found on the oconeecounty.com website.

2) How can I determine if I have a leak?

Most meters are equipped with a leak indicator (see figure below) that can help you identify if you have a leak at your home. Before you go and look at your water meter make sure all water is turned off inside your home. If any water is left on from faucets running or clothes washers, etc. this will affect the results of looking at your water meter. Once you find your meter and have the lid pulled off, you want to find the face of the meter. If all water is off to your home the leak indicator should not be moving. If it is moving that means that water is being pulled through the meter and there is the possibility of a leak. The leak could be anywhere from the meter box to inside the home.
