Announcement of Advance Voting Dates, Times & Locations for May 20, 2014 General Primary

Election Day:  May 20, 2014 ~ Voter Registration Deadline:  April 21, 2014

Early Voting at the Oconee County Elections office, 10 Court Street:  April 28 to May 16 from 8 am to 5 pm; and Saturday, Sat May 10 from 9 am to 4 pm.

During the last week of Early Voting you may also vote at the Oconee County Civic Center, 2661 Hog Mountain Road:  May 12 to 16 from 8 am to 5 pm.

NOTE: School will be in session on Election Day this year.

Mission

The mission of the Elections and Registration Office is to register citizens of Oconee County to vote; to ensure that elections are free, impartial, fair, accurate, convenient and accessible to all voters; to encourage voter participation; to provide excellent customer service to voters, candidates and the media; and to help the public understand and follow all laws, rules and regulations set by Federal, State and Local Laws, as well as the State Election Board

Responsibilities

 In addition to planning, organizing and conducting all county elections, the Oconee County Board of Elections and Registrations Office is responsible for recording the voter registrations of Oconee County citizens and verifying the legality of each voter. The Elections office is accountable for the accuracy and validity of elections and for abiding by all federal and state election codes.

1) What are the qualifications to register to vote?

You must be at least 17-1/2 years old to register and 18 years old to vote; a resident of the county in which you register; a United States citizen; you cannot be serving a sentence for a felony involving moral turpitude; and you cannot have been adjudicated mentally incompetent. 
 

2) When is the deadline to register to vote before an election?

Voter Registration Deadline is the fifth Monday prior to the election (if Monday is a legal holiday, deadline moves to the next day). The same deadline applies to changing your name and/or address prior to an election. 
 

3) After I register, when do I get my card?

A Precinct Card is Mailed to the applicant once the voter registration application is approved. If you do not receive your card within two to three weeks, please contact your local county voter registration office. 
  

4) What information is required on the application to register to vote? 

Information Required on Application: Complete name; residence address; mailing address if different; county of residence; date of birth; and signature or mark. Optional information includes race, gender and telephone number.  
 

5) When is Advance Voting?

 The period of Advanced Voting shall commence on the fourth Monday immediately prior to each election and as soon as possible prior to a runoff and shall end on the Friday immediately prior to each primary, election, or runoff. Voting shall be conducted during normal business hours on weekdays during such period and shall be conducted on the second Saturday prior to a primary or election during the hours of 9 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.; provided, however, that in primaries and elections in which there are no federal or state candidates on the ballot, no Saturday voting hours shall be required. Pursuant to Code Section 21-2-385 (d) (1)
