Honored Again in 2007 by Progressive Farmer
Magazine
Once again, The
Progressive Farmer has honored Oconee County in its annual
compilation of the "Best Places to Live in Rural America."
Although it did not make the top 10 list for the nation this
year, Oconee County was chosen as number 9 out of the top 60
counties in the Southeastern United States. Oconee County
was also rated #8 in the nation for "Highest Percentage of
College Educated Population" at 55.66% and was rated #7 in the
nation for "Best Air Quality" at 70 on the Air Pollution Index.
Last year (2006) marked the second year that Oconee County placed in the top ten of The Progressive Farmer magazine's "Best Places to Live in Rural America"
and Oconee County placed Number 1 on the list of "Best Places to Live in the Rural
Southeast" for 2006. According to The Progressive
Farmer, "Oconee County is one of only two places that made our
top 10, two years in a row."
According to The Progressive Farmer,
"we look at household income, household spending, home and land
prices, crime rates, air quality, education, access to health
care . . . all things that can give us a snapshot of places we
think our readers would want to call home."
