December to date: Skunk on Carson Graves Rd, Skunk on McCrees Gin Rd
November: No reports
October: Skunk on Osborne Road, Skunk on Cemetery Road,
Raccoon on Summit Drive, Skunk on Greensboro Highway
Important:
The Rabies virus must
have a host to live. Once the host dies, the virus will start
to die within 15 minutes. If you find domestic animals or
wildlife dead on or near your property, you may bury or bag it.
As with any dead animal, you should not handle the carcass with bare
hands.

1-10-5: Proper Disposal of Dead Animals.
Dogs, cats and ferrets, three months and older, kept or harbored in
Oconee County, must be vaccinated by a licensed veterinarian.
The rabies tag shall be secured to the animals collar and the collar
secured to the animals neck.

Animal Control Hours:
The Oconee County Animal
Control Shelter is open to the public Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays
and Fridays from 12 noon to 5 pm. In order to efficiently serve
the public, all paperwork should be turned in by 4:30 pm.
On Wednesdays
and Saturdays, the shelter is closed to the public. Officers
will respond to calls as necessary.
The shelter is closed on Sundays and
all county holidays.
Emergency
calls will be answered 7 days a week.

Mission:
The mission of the Oconee County Animal Control
Department is to assist, protect and educate the public on animal
care, welfare issues, and to enforce the Oconee County Animal
Control Ordinances.
Summary of Services:
Enforce Oconee County Animal Control Ordinances and issue citations
accordingly; pick up stray and abandoned animals; promote animal
adoption programs in the community and on the internet; work closely
with rescue and other agencies; trap stray dogs and cats;
investigate reports of animal cruelty and neglect; euthanize
un-adopted animals as necessary; visit schools and teach responsible
pet ownership; bite prevention and recognition of Rabies and animal
behavior; rescue sick and injured animals; assist the Rabies Control
Officer; trap wildlife and snakes inside the living area of the
home.
Animal Adoption
Fees:
The fee for domestic animals is $100. The price
includes sterilization, Rabies & Distemper vaccinations, wormer, micro-chipping and a
light veterinary exam. All animals are sterilized prior to
release for adoption and will be picked up from the veterinarian's
office unless prior arrangements are made with the shelter.
Oconee County Animal Control does not guarantee the health
or behavior of an
adopted animal. If problems are evident, the shelter will
disclose the information to the adopter. OCONEE COUNTY ANIMAL
CONTROL NOW ACCEPTS CASH, CHECKS, MASTERCARD, VISA AND DISCOVER
CARDS. There is a 3% convenience fee for using charge cards
and bank cards.

satellite adoption center for Oconee County Animal Control.
