Installation Information for
Oconee County Water Lines
The construction and installation of
Oconee County water transmission lines can be a
complex process. Because we realize construction may
create some inconvenience for a short period of time,
we would like to explain the procedures and contract
requirements we have with our contractors.
Once the contractor has been issued a
notice to proceed, the installation will commence.
The contractor is required to follow all DOT or County
road closing and flagging procedures.
We
require the contractor to bore under all driveways
that are concrete or asphalt and notify owners on
drives that are gravel prior to any cuts. Once
installation begins we require clean-up on Fridays.
These
clean-ups include temporary seeding and straw in
completed sections. This practice will continue until
the line is completely installed.
Soil
and erosion control is a very important part of the
contract and is closely
monitored by both County Code Enforcement Inspectors
and Utility Department Inspectors.
After the installation, there will be a
period required for pressure
testing and disinfection of the installed line.
This can take between 3 and
4 weeks if there are any leaks. No final grading
or landscape
repairs are made until the line passes
the required test.
Once pressure testing and disinfection
have been completed, the
County Utility Inspector will make a final punch list
with the Contractor. The
individual property owners will be contacted for any
additional items they feel need to be addressed.
If you have any suggestion or problems
during the construction period,
please feel free to contact John Hatcher at
706-769-3960.
