S Public Education and
Outreach
This includes distributing educational materials and
performing outreach to inform citizens about the impacts of
polluted stormwater runoff on water quality.
S Public Participation
We are providing opportunities for citizens to participate
in program implementation. This includes helping to
identify sensitive storm drains and performing river
cleanup. Volunteers are needed to help mark storm
drains with stenciled signs indicating "Drains to Stream."
S
Illicit discharge Detection and
Elimination
We are developing and implementing a plan to detect and
eliminate illicit discharges to the storm sewer system.
This includes inspection of storm drains and mapping the
storm sewer system.
S
Construction Site Runoff
Control
This includes training on Best Management Practices (BMP)
installation, review of erosion control plans, and
enforcement of the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control
Ordinance.
S
Post-Construction Runoff
Control
We are developing, implementing, and enforcing a program to
address post-construction runoff from new development and
redevelopment areas. The program will include
inspection of existing detention/retention ponds and will
require a maintenance agreement for new detention ponds.
S
Pollution Prevention and Good
Housekeeping
We are developing a program aimed at reducing pollutant
runoff from county operations. The program will
include staff training on pollution prevention measures and
inspection of Oconee County municipal operations to identify
potential pollution problems.
