This department is responsible for:

The Oconee County Board of Elections and Registrations Office is responsible for recording the voter registration of Oconee County citizens and verifying the legality of each voter.  This office is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting all county elections.  The Elections office is accountable for the accuracy and validity of elections and for abiding by all the Federal and Georgia State Election Codes when conducting elections.  They also serve as the filing office for all local candidates to file State Ethics forms.

Voter Registration Information

      
Important Information for Citizens Wishing to Vote

  • Qualifications to Register to Vote:  You must be at least 17-1/2 years old to register and 18 years old to vote; a resident of the county in which you register; a United States citizen; you cannot be serving a sentence for a felony involving moral turpitude; and you cannot have been adjudicated mentally incompetent.

  • Voter Registration Deadline is the fifth Monday prior to the election (if Monday is a legal holiday, deadline moves to the next day).  The same deadline applies to changing your name and/or address prior to an election.

  • Information Required on Application:  Complete name; residence address; mailing address if different; county of residence; date of birth; and signature or mark.  Optional information includes race, gender and telephone number.

  • A Precinct Card is Mailed to the applicant once the voter registration application is approved.  If you do not receive your card within two to three weeks, please contact your local county voter registration office.
